How to start a car with a dead battery without jumper cables?

Imagine you're coming back from a trip with your friends or family and encounter a flat battery without another soul in sight. Here's how you can navigate through the situation.

We employ a method called Push-starting, generally also called pop/bump starting. Here, you force the roaring engine to life, instead of using a jumper cable or a starter. It is better if you can find a slight incline on the road/street, and a friend or two to help you with the process.

Ask your friend/family member to get ready to push the car from the rear. Meanwhile, take the driver's seat and turn on the engine. Keeping the parking brake active, press the clutch and shift to the second gear.

Once you have shifted the gear, release the parking brake and press the brake pedal. Next, slowly release the brake and ask your friends to start the pushing process. When your vehicle reaches 5mph, release the clutch quickly. This will make your engine sputter and buck and then start with the process.

If the engine starts, your car battery has revived.. If not, you can repeat the process at a slightly higher speed. This works for both the manual and automatic cars, however, you may face a few difficulties with the automatic ones.

The other way to start your flat car battery would be to make use of a jump-start box. This is not essentially starting a car without jumper cables, but it does negate the use of another car and the usual cables.

For those who are not aware, jump boxes are compact portable batteries that have jumper cables attached to them. These are equipped with software that controls the car's voltage, rendering them much safer and useful than jumper cables. You can also find jump boxes with onboard safety lights, AC outlets, and USB ports to charge your phone. You can find these in your local repair shop, hardware stores, or the online stores.

Here's how you can start a dead battery with a Jump-Start Box. The first step is to ensure that the box is completely charged. Next comes the cables; connect them to the directed positive and negative posts. The red clamp connects to the positive post often denoted by the '+' sign or a red cover on the dead battery. Attach the black clamp to the grounded metal surface somewhere on the vehicle's frame.

Switch on the Jump-box as instructed. Wait for another minute or so before starting the car. If you face any trouble, allow the car battery to charge and then start again after a few minutes. Once the car starts, you should turn off the jump-starter and remove the clamps in the reverse order – starting with the black one and then the red. There you have it, a functional car!

If everything else does not work, you can also try charging the flat car battery with the help of solar power. Place the solar panel on the car's dashboard, ensuring it gets enough sun. Next, plug it into the cigarette lighter point of the car. This method will charge your car battery without much hassle, or jumper cables.
